Police: Montville man broke into Ledyard home, started fight, caused $3,000 in damage

Ledyard — Police on Thursday arrested a Montville man they said broke into a home, beat up a man inside and smashed a TV, a table and a windshield on his way out.

Felipe Echavarria, 28, of 300 Massapeag Road, Uncasville, was charged with breach of peace, first-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and third-degree assault.

According to police, Echavarria showed up to the Ledyard residence around 11:38 p.m. wanting to see his 6-year-old son.

When he called the mother of their child from his car to ask about coming inside, she told him the child was asleep, police said.

Echavarria allegedly proceeded to kick in the front door of the residence so he could confront the mother, who was lying in bed with her boyfriend, according to police.

Police said Echavarria then began to punch the boyfriend, ultimately leaving a cut on the boyfriend’s ear and scratch and bite marks on his neck and shoulders.

The boyfriend refused medical treatment at the scene, according to police.

As he was exiting the house, police said, Echavarria broke a television, a door frame, a glass table and then a windshield once he was outside, causing more than $3,000 in damage.

Police said they were arriving on scene as Echavarria was leaving and were able to detain him immediately.

Echavarria, who was released on a $25,000 surety bond, was due in New London Superior Court on Friday.
