Man shot in New London Saturday night

New London — Police are investigating the shooting of a 29-year-old city man Saturday night on Hawthorne Drive.

At 8:36 p.m., police said they responded to a 911 call that a man had been shot in the parking lot of 158 Hawthorne Drive. When they arrived they found Jerimy J. Escalera, of 24 Willetts Ave., lying in the lot bleeding with what appeared to be a gun shot wound to the side. He was first taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and flown by Life Star helicopter to Yale-New Haven Hospital for emergency surgery.

The case is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 860-447-1481. Anonymous information can be submitted via the New London Tips 411 system.
