Lyme — State police last week arrested a New London woman they said slept, ate and showered in a home that wasn’t hers in April.
Sandra Torres-Vazquez, 28, of 20 Garvin St., New London, was charged Aug. 15 with second-degree criminal trespass, interfering with an officer and driving with a suspended license.
According to an affidavit written by Trooper Ferenc Bozso, the owners of a Hamburg Road house returned home late on April 16 to find a strange car in their driveway and second-floor lights on in their house.
In a statement to police, one of the homeowners said he and his wife discovered a woman underneath the covers of a spare bedroom bed when they went upstairs to investigate.
According to the homeowner, the woman said her name was Maria and that she and her husband, Gregory, lived there. She then got out of bed, proceeded to the bathroom and apparently took a shower, according to the affidavit.
The homeowner told police he also found dishes in the sink that he did not remember putting there and that neither he nor his wife had given Torres-Vazquez permission to be in the home.
Police, who arrived on scene around midnight, determined that the 2006 Acura MDX outside the home belonged to Torres-Vazquez.
When police spoke to Torres-Vazquez, the affidavit states, she “had blood shot eyes and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.”
According to the affidavit, Torres-Vazquez told police she didn’t know where she was or how she got there, but that her husband had told her to come to the residence.
Police said Torres-Vazquez refused to answer several other questions.
Crews eventually took Torres-Vazquez to Middlesex Medical Center in Westbrook because she said she was pregnant and asked to go there, according to the affidavit.
Upon further investigation, police learned the home had been unlocked when Torres-Vazquez allegedly entered it and thus its alarm system wasn’t activated.
They also learned that Torres-Vazquez’s driver’s license was suspended because of a 2012 conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the affidavit states.
Torres-Vazquez, held on a $75,000 bond, is next scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Sept. 2.
