Stonington teen leads police on chase, charged with DUI
Stonington -- Police charged a local teen with driving under the influence Saturday night after they say he refused to stop for officers while driving in excess of 70 mph on Elmridge Road in Pawcatuck.
Lincoln J. Robinson, 19, of 235 North Anguilla Road, was also charged with reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer, traveling unreasonably fast and failure to obey a traffic control signal.
He was released on a nonsurety bond and is slated to appear in New London Superior Court Sept. 6.
According to police, officers tried to stop the vehicle he was driving for excessive speed about 10 p.m.
Police said Robinson then sped up and passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone by Elmridge golf course and then passed a utility crew that was replacing a pole that had been damaged in a drunken-driving crash a few hours earlier. Police said Robinson then drove through the red light at the intersection of Route 2, crossed four lanes of traffic and continued up Route 49. Police discontinued their pursuit of Robinson and went to the address of the vehicle owner. While there, Robinson pulled up and was arrested after taking field sobriety tests.
