Updated: Uncasville man injured in Watch Hill motorcycle crash

Westerly — An Uncasville man was injured Saturday after crashing his motorcycle in Watch Hill.

Police said Peter Pierfederici, 73, was riding a 1986 Honda Shadow about 3:43 p.m. and lost control of the motorcycle as he turned a corner at Ocean View Highway and Ninigret Avenue.

Interim Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey told The Day Monday that Pierfederici had died at Rhode Island Hospital hours after the crash but a hospital spokeswoman said Monday night that he was in fair condition at the hospital.

Lacey said witnesses told police they heard a screeching noise and saw Pierfederici fall off of the bike.

"He just came around the corner and kind of lost control," he said.

Pierfederici told police that he was driving at about 35 miles per hour, just over the 25 miles per hour speed limit in the area, Lacey said.

Pierfederici was alert and complaining of chest pains when emergency responders took him to Westerly Hospital. He was then transferred to Rhode Island Hospital.
