Mashantucket — The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police officer involved in the confrontation with Michael Goodale, who fell from the fourth floor of the Fox Tower parking garage at Foxwoods Resort Casino and died during the incident Tuesday, has been identified as Sgt. Kevin Leach.
Police said the officer fired a service weapon at least once at Goodale during the confrontation, though they have not said whether Goodale was struck.
Leach has been with the tribal police force for three years. He is retired from the Norwich Police Department.
He began working in law enforcement in the U.S. Coast Guard, according to The Day archives. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1989 and joined the Norwich Police Department in 1991, receiving the 2006 Connecticut State Police Outstanding Service Award in the course of his service.
He retired in 2013, and began working for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Department as an officer, eventually being promoted to sergeant.
