New London police: 5 victims in 'citrus-type spray agent' incident

New London — A local woman is in custody after she allegedly sprayed a "citrus-type spray agent" Thursday evening, hitting one person directly in the face and affecting four others, according to police.

Destinie Seales, 38, of 103 Colman St. was charged with five counts of third-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor and second-degree breach of peace.

Police said they responded to an unspecified city residence at about 6:58 p.m. Thursday for a reported domestic violence incident.

Officers discovered upon arrival that Seales allegedly had come to the residence and caused a disturbance regarding a family matter.

Police said they learned through further investigation that Seales sprayed “multiple bursts” of the agent through a screen door, hitting one person directly in the face.

Police said four others in the home, including a 3-year-old, suffered from residual effects of the spray. The victims reported burning sensations in their eyes, skin redness and coughing, police said.

Responders treated all five victims with water flushes and fresh air to combat the effects of the spray.

Police did not specify what the spray was.

Seales, held in lieu of a $25,000 bond, was scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Friday.
