Norwich police: man attempts to flee while handcuffed
Norwich — A Greeneville man being arrested on numerous charges Wednesday attempted to flee from police on foot while handcuffed behind his back, but was apprehended within a short distance, police said.
There were no injuries in the incident, police said.
Jon C. Johnson, 20, of 482 E. Main St. was charged Wednesday with interfering with police and escape from custody, and was held on a $10,000 cash bond on those charges.
He also was charged on a warrant in a domestic violence incident with three counts of second-degree failure to appear in court, two counts of failure to respond to an infraction and one count each of first-degree failure to appear in court, disorderly conduct, third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, second-degree larceny, unlawful restraint and criminal mischief.
He was held on $15,000 bond for each failure to appear charge, another $15,000 for the assault charge and $150 for each failure to respond to infractions.
Johnson was being held at the Norwich Police Station and will be arraigned Thursday if he does not post bail. If he is released on bail, he is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Oct. 27.
