Police: Woman speeding on I-95 had 20.6 pounds of marijuana
Waterford — State police early Tuesday arrested a Massachusetts woman they said was speeding on Interstate 95 and had 20.6 pounds of marijuana in her car.
Betsy Cardozo, 25, of Dorchester, Mass., was charged Tuesday with illegal possession, transportation, distribution or sale of marijuana, possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana and reckless driving.
According to police, Cardozo was going 89 mph in a 55 mph zone when police pulled her over.
Police said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle and Cardozo admitted to having used some earlier. They initiated a search of the vehicle, which they said yielded 20.6 pounds of marijuana packed in separate vacuum-sealed bags.
Cardozo, held on a $50,000 cash bond, was due in New London Superior Court Tuesday morning.
