Police at Fox Tower arrest woman wanted in New York murder

Mashantucket — Tribal police arrested a woman on a fugitive from justice charge Wednesday after discovering she was wanted in connection with a murder in New York.

Police responded to a report of an intoxicated woman at 10 a.m. and found a Atiana Wheat, 21, of New York in a room in Fox Tower.

Chief of Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Department William Dittman said Wheat was wanted on a bench warrant for second-degree murder charges out of the 25th Precinct in New York.

She was being held on a $500,000 bond, and will be presented at Superior Court in New London on Thursday.

Details about her New York charges were not immediately available.
