Head-on crash in Preston leaves 1 dead
Preston — One motorist is dead after the car she was driving hit the driver’s side of one vehicle before colliding head on with a third vehicle on state Route 2A Thursday evening.
According to state police, Jenette M. Grabowski, 45, of Lisbon is the deceased.
Police said she was driving her 1992 Ford Tempo GL east in the area of 166 Route 2A around 5:24 p.m. when she hit the driver’s side of a 1999 GMC Sonoma that was traveling west.
According to police, Grabowski then drove her car head on into a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee that also was traveling west.
Stephen M. Petrowski, 43, and Richard J. Rock, 43 — both of 3F Flintlock Road, Ledyard, and both in the Sonoma — reported no injuries.
Crews took all three occupants of the Grand Cherokee to The William W. Backus Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Those in the vehicle were Therese Heben, 41, David Heben, 37, and an 11-year-old girl, all of 27 Coachman Pike, Ledyard.
Grabowski also was taken to Backus Hospital, with serious injuries. She succumbed to them not long after arriving at the hospital, police said.
Police said the area was dark, the pavement was dry and traffic was medium at the time of the crash. Their investigation is ongoing.
