Poquonnock Bridge firefighters secure grant for new software
Groton — Members of the Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department soon will have new equipment, thanks to a $3,000 grant from FM Global.
Firefighter and grant writer Evan DeGaetano said the money, which FM Global representatives presented to the department last month, will help purchase an iPad and equip it with fire marshal inspection software. The software, he said, will allow the marshal to look up code violations and complete digital reports while in the field rather than having to return to the office and fill out paper reports.
“This will ultimately save time and allow for more inspections, making everyone safer,” DeGaetano explained.
The grant is one of five the department has received since undertaking an effort about a year ago to help taxpayers out by seeking grants. The grants — four local, one federal — total $71,750.
FM Global is an insurance company based in Johnston, R.I., that has offices around the world.
