Groton — A Groton man was killed Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle while walking across the street on Crystal Lake Road, just east of Route 12.

Police have not yet released the identity of the man, pending notification to his next of kin.

The accident occurred about 5:15 p.m. and Groton Town police responded to the scene with the Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department and Groton Ambulance.

The unidentified man was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The roadway was closed for several hours as the police department’s accident reconstruction joined the investigation. The investigation is ongoing, according to Groton Town Police Lt. Brian A. Dawson Jr.

Police have not yet released the name of the driver involved in the accident.
