Car hits pole, building in New London
New London — Repairs are continuing after a driver lost control of her vehicle and slammed into a pole and a Blackhall Street business before fleeing the scene, according to fire officials.
The car struck the pole and a portion of Delorge Auto Body, 64 Blackhall St., about 10 p.m. Monday.
When police and fire officials arrived on scene, the driver of the car, who police said was a female, was nowhere to be found.
According to fire officials, witnesses said they had seen someone running down the street not long before emergency personnel arrived.
An Eversource crew performed a temporary repair of the pole Monday night and was working to replace it Tuesday.
Officials said the Delorge auto shop was closed to the public pending an inspection. They said damage to the building was moderate.
Police said they attempted to track the woman with a K-9 team but were not successful.
