Waterford police searching for stolen cars, five suspects

Waterford — Police are searching for five suspects who allegedly stole three vehicles early Thursday morning in the area of Millstone Point East.

A Waterford police officer who was on a routine patrol came across a white Lexus with damage to the front end. When he tried to stop the vehicle, the driver drove off, according to Waterford Police Lt. Steve Bellos.

A short time later, another Waterford officer went to stop a red BMW. The driver also fled and engaged police in a pursuit that continued into East Lyme, where police in that town continued to pursue the vehicle, according to Bellos.

Sgt. Bruce Babcock from the East Lyme Police Department said the driver of the BMW, a male juvenile, was traveling at a high speed down Route 156, and that the pursuit ended when the car went off the road in Old Lyme. The male juvenile was taken into custody by East Lyme police and returned to Waterford. He is charged with engaging police in pursuit and theft of a motor vehicle.

Bellos said that police still are looking for a red Chevrolet Traverse and the white Lexus, which were reported stolen. He is reminding residents to lock their vehicles and to not leave their keys in their car.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Waterford police at (860) 442-9451.
