Man who attempted suicide while in New London police custody dies

New London — The man who attempted suicide while in custody at the New London Police Department last month has died, according to New London State's Attorney Michael L. Regan.

Police on Friday identified the man as Donovan Chaney, 55, whose last known address was 24 Lee Ave. Regan said his office was not sure of the exact date of Chaney's death.

According to police, Chaney attempted suicide about 2 a.m. Jan. 17. A crew took him to the hospital as soon as police discovered what had happened.
