Plainfield — Police have arrested a Salem woman for her alleged role in a June crash that left her and another woman with serious injuries.
Stephanie Januszewski, 30, of 108 Hagen Road, Salem, was charged Tuesday on a warrant with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and second-degree assault with a vehicle.
According to police, Januszewski was driving a 1998 Honda Civic south on Starkweather Road when she lost control, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2006 gray Mazda 3 driven by Marcia Huhta, 76, of Moosup. The two cars crashed about 12:30 p.m. near 416 Starkweather Road.
Crews took Januszewski, who had suspected serious injuries, to The William W. Backus Hospital. She later was transferred by Life Star to Hartford Hospital. Life Star took Marcia Huhta from the scene to Rhode Island Hospital with suspected serious injuries.
Matti Huhta, Marcia’s 77-year-old husband, who was her passenger, was taken first to Backus Hospital, then to Rhode Island Hospital with suspected minor injuries.
Police said Januszewski, who turned herself in to police at 7:32 a.m. Tuesday, was held on a $25,000 cash/surety court-set bond and was scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court later the same day.
