Man charged with firing gun during fight outside Montville hotel
Montville — A Brooklyn, Conn., man was arrested Wednesday after police said he fired a shot from a handgun during a confrontation with another man in the parking lot of a hotel on Route 32.
Jesse Herren, 28, of 106 Tatnic Hill Road, Brooklyn, was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree breach of peace and first-degree reckless endangerment.
At 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Montville police were called out to investigate a disturbance between two men at the Microtel Inn and Suites. Police determined Herren and another man — David Jordon, 38, of Hague, N.Y. — were having a verbal argument that turned physical.
At some point, police said, Herren was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot when he was approached by Jordon. A struggle ensued, police said, and Herren discharged his firearm. No one was injured but police said the shot struck the tire of a parked vehicle.
Herren has a valid permit to possess a firearm, police said.
Herren initially was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond but was freed on a promise to appear after his appearance Wednesday in Norwich Superior Court, records show. Jordon, charged with second-degree breach of peace, is free on a $5,000 bond.
