Police: Two cited after officer stop leads to foot chase
New London — Officers assigned to quality-of-life patrol operations said they arrested two men Wednesday after both were drinking alcoholic beverages in public and one led police on a foot chase.
Justice Rodriguez, 20, of 83 Blackhall St., No. 2, was charged with interfering with an officer, carrying a pistol without a permit and drinking in public, which is a violation of city ordinance.
Coyt Taylor, 19, of 8 Woodland Drive, Waterford, was charged with drinking in public.
According to a news release, officers spotted Rodriguez and Taylor drinking alcoholic beverages while walking down Connecticut Avenue and stopped them to talk with them. A state probation officer working in the area approached the officers and men and began to provide information related to recent narcotics activity involving one of the men when Rodriguez ran from the officers. Police said that when Rodriguez was caught, he was found to be in possession of a loaded .25 caliber firearm.
Quality-of-life patrol assignments concentrate on issues such as drinking in public, prostitution, trespassing and narcotics activity. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police through the New London Tips 411 system.
