Police: Dog bites two children, their mother in Crystal Avenue high-rises

New London — Police said they are investigating after a dog bit two children and their mother in the Crystal Avenue apartment complex Friday night.

The attack occurred when the mother of the two children, an 11-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, tried to move the dog away from her son, according to police.

The dog, which police described as a "pit bull mix" owned by a visiting family member, lashed out and bit the boy in the legs.

After the dog bit the children's mother in the arms and legs, her daughter began to yell, and the dog bit her in the right arm, according to police. Officers said they arrived on the scene shortly after 7 p.m. to find the girl with two long tears in her right arm.

All three victims were transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment for their injuries.

The dog was impounded by New London Animal Control, and police said the investigation was ongoing.
