Plainfield man seriously injured when car crashes into tree
Plainfield — A 31-year-old Moosup man sustained serious injuries when his car crashed head-on into a tree early Saturday morning, police said.
Matthew Avery was traveling westbound on Black Hill Road in the Central Village section of town when his 2002 Infiniti G20 hit the tree about 6:25 a.m., police said.
Avery was trapped in his car for more than 40 minutes before emergency crews could free him. A medical helicopter was called to the scene but was not available because of the weather, according to Quinnebaug Valley Emergency Communications.
Avery was taken to The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich for treatment of serious injuries, police said. His condition was not available Saturday morning.
The accident is under investigation, police said.
