Groton man charged with threatening, assault rifle possession
Groton — A Groton man is facing threatening and weapons charges connected to an incident in March in which he allegedly pointed a shotgun at a female victim.
Alexander Pickett, 31, of 301 Buddington Road, Lot 71, Groton, is charged with first-degree threatening, first-degree reckless endangerment, possession of an assault weapon and carrying a firearm while intoxicated.
Police began an investigation on March 9 based on a report from a woman who claimed that while at Pickett’s apartment he briefly had displayed a handgun and later made sexual advances toward her. The woman told police she rejected the advances and struck him in the face with a drinking glass.
The woman told police that Pickett then retrieved a shotgun, pointed it at her and said that he would shoot her. She reported that she begged Pickett not to kill her and eventually convinced him to take her to a gas station, where she called a taxi to pick her up.
Police interviewed Pickett and executed a search-and-seizure warrant at his home, where they said they located the bottom portion of an AR-15, an assault-style rifle.
Pickett turned himself in to the Groton Police Department on Thursday and was being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
