Click It or Ticket campaign set to last through June 4
Several local police departments this week began a two-week campaign to find and ticket drivers who aren’t using their seat belts.
Click It or Ticket, made possible by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, occurs in part because NHTSA studies show almost one in five U.S. motorists do not buckle up, even though that’s the most effective way to reduce crash fatalities.
The effort features boosted nighttime and daytime patrols, which seek out seat belt violations but also keep an eye on other traffic violations. Officers also will set up occasional seat belt checkpoints. The extra patrols intentionally correspond with Memorial Day weekend.
Law enforcement agencies will wrap up the campaign June 4.
