Ledyard police: Motorcyclist went 68 mph in a 30-mph zone
Ledyard — A local man is facing multiple charges after police said he drove more than double the speed limit in a 30-mph zone, failed to pull over for an officer and then ditched his motorcycle.
Gabriel Martinez, 23, of 20-G Flintlock Road was charged Sunday with failure to obey an officer’s signal, speeding and driving a motorcycle without a license.
According to police, an officer spotted the speeding motorcycle going westbound on state Route 214 about 10:38 p.m. Sunday. Police said the officer clocked the motorcycle at 68 mph in a 30-mph zone and then attempted to pull it over.
Rather than obey the officer, police said, the driver continued on Route 214 before turning onto a dead-end street and then fleeing on foot.
Police said they later located Martinez and arrested him without incident. He was released after posting a $500 nonsurety bond.
