Off-duty trooper helps woman who went into labor on Route 2
Lebanon — An off-duty trooper on Tuesday evening assisted a woman who had gone into labor on state Route 2, state police said Wednesday.
Police said an OnStar alert notified dispatchers at Troop K that the woman was in labor at 7:27 p.m. The alert pointed them first to Route 2 east, near Exit 22, then to a commuter lot just off the exit.
As dispatchers were sending on-duty troopers and medical services to the scene, an off-duty trooper who heard the radio call said he was en route.
Police said the off-duty trooper rendered advanced first aid care to the woman and continued to assist with the child birth process until on-duty troopers and medical personnel arrived.
Crews then took the woman to The William W. Backus Hospital.
