Norwich man charged in June 22 shooting in New London
New London — A Norwich man was charged Wednesday afternoon in connection with a shooting last Thursday.
Javier Muniz, 30, of 81 Norwich Ave., Norwich, was charged with first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment.
On June 22, New London police responded to a call of multiple shots fired near the intersection of Truman and Coit streets. Officers located a victim nearby who had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, according to a release issued Wednesday evening.
With assistance from the community, the investigative division of the department was able to obtain an arrest warrant for Muniz in connection with the shooting.
Muniz currently is on federal probation for previous weapon violations, according to the release.
