Firefighters battle blaze at Pawcatuck home

Stonington — Pawcatuck firefighters fought a blaze Thursday night at a home at 94 Stillman Ave. in Pawcatuck.

Police said the fire was reported by the homeowners about 7 p.m. The house is owned by Patrick and Rachel Odell.

Rachel Odell said her husband had been out walking one of the family's dogs and when he returned to the residence, he found the fire.

Police said Patrick Odell and the couple's children escaped the house without injury. Dogs in the house were rescued but Rachel Odell said that cats were unaccounted for.

Firefighters reported flames coming from the first floor. The response included cutting at the house with chainsaws to get to the fire. Though smoke continued to billow from the roof, firefighters had the fire under control as of 7:49 p.m.

    The fire was under investigation.
