Waterford roads reopened after downed trees, wires

Waterford — Vauxhall Street Extension and Cross Road have reopened after high winds in the region took down trees and wires Wednesday morning.

Police first closed Vauxhall Street Extension between Hunts Brook Road and the Montville town line after wires fell in the area. That happened about 8 a.m.

At 10 a.m., police said Cross Road also had been closed near the Airgas store at 130 Cross Road. Electric wires were down in the area, affecting the traffic lights on Parkway North, Parkway South and state Route 85.

Police additionally said a tree fell through wires near 58 Hunts Brook Road, rendering the road impassable.

They confirmed at 4 p.m. that both roads had been reopened.

Eversource had been notified of the incidents, but police noted the company's crews are busy responding to wind-related outages across the state.

Eversource's outage map showed Waterford had 544 customers without power about 10 a.m. By 4 p.m., only scattered outages remained throughout the state.
