Norwich man, passengers escape rollover crash unscathed

Plainfield — A Norwich man and his three passengers escaped without serious injury Thursday evening after he lost control of his vehicle and caused it to flip over, according to police.

Police said the crash occurred just before 8 p.m. on Shepard Hill Road, which is in the Central Village section of town.

On scene, police determined 36-year-old Michael Deane of Norwich had failed to maintain his lane while traveling south on Shepard Hill Road. As a result, his 2006 Chevrolet HHR rolled over before coming to a stop in the northbound lane. The car then caught on fire, police said.

Police said all four occupants got out of the car before officers arrived.

Members of the American Legion and Mortlake ambulance companies transported the occupants to The William W. Backus Hospital for treatment of possible injuries.

    The crash remains under investigation.
