New London man arrested after knife fight

New London — A city man was arrested on weapon and assault charges following a Tuesday evening knife fight that resulted in minor injuries to himself and two others, police said.

Charles Cantley, 30, with a last known address of 325 Huntington St., has been charged with breach of peace, third-degree assault, second-degree threatening and carrying a dangerous weapon, according to a news release from the New London Police Department.

Police received a call about 5:17 p.m. on Tuesday reporting a man with a knife fighting another man around Mill and Cole streets.

Upon arrival, officers found two men and one woman, all of whom appeared to have minor injuries, police said. They were taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and later released.

Police found that Cantley was involved in an argument with his girlfriend that turned physical. According to police, another man tried to stop Cantley from hitting his girlfriend, and Cantley attempted to cut this man with a knife.

The knife eventually was found, police said. Cantley was held on a $10,000 cash-surety bond and was due to appear in court Wednesday.
