Police: Woman stole firearm from Foxwoods patron's jacket

Mashantucket — Police on Saturday arrested a Massachusetts woman who allegedly rifled through a Foxwoods Resort Casino patron’s jacket and stole a firearm from within.

Marisol R. Feliciano, 47, of Springfield, Mass., is the accused. Held on a $75,000 bond, she’s facing charges of stealing a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a weapon in a vehicle and criminal possession of a pistol.

According to a police report, officers learned shortly before midnight Friday that a man and his girlfriend had spent part of the night in the Bingo Hall before leaving to get something to eat. The pair said they realized about 45 minutes later that they had left the man’s jacket on the woman’s seat. When they went back to find the jacket, it was on a different seat, the report states.

On further inspection, the pair realized the man’s Ruger LCP .380-caliber pistol was missing from the jacket. While the gun wasn’t loaded, the report states, a separate magazine with six cartridges also was missing from the pocket. Though the man lawfully owns the gun, police on Monday were looking into whether to charge him for failure to store it properly.

According to the report, officers reviewed surveillance video and quickly spotted a different man and woman who had approached the jacket about 11 p.m. Though security footage didn’t show the woman with anything in her hand, it did show her rummaging through the jacket, the report states.

Members of the surveillance unit began tracking the woman and her male companion and, about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, notified officers that the duo was at the Burger King at Pequot Outpost.

Several officers responded to the scene. When one of them, Officer Michael McKinney, approached the driver’s seat, the woman behind the wheel allegedly told him the firearm was under her seat.

McKinney looked there and found both the gun and the magazine, according to the report. Police said the woman’s companion seemed surprised to learn the pistol was in the car.

Police detained the man at first but released him without charges. They identified the woman as Feliciano and learned she has felony convictions out of Massachusetts for possession and sale of heroin, as well as assault and battery.

Arraigned Monday, Feliciano is next due Feb. 1 in New London Superior Court.
