Police: Uncasville woman nearly hit police officer with vehicle
Groton — An Uncasville woman faces multiple charges after she nearly struck a Groton Town Police officer while trying to drive away when the officer asked about a shoplifting incident, police said.
Mandi R. Williams, 40, of 82 Jerome Road, Unit 234, was charged Sunday with three counts of interfering with police, two counts of assault on public safety or emergency medical personnel, breach of peace, criminal impersonation, first-degree reckless endangerment and sixth-degree larceny.
Groton police were called by a business about a shoplifting incident and an officer began speaking to Williams as she sat in her car, according to a police department summary of the incident. She became argumentative and provided false identification when asked, the summary said.
"The suspect began to drive away and had to be stopped as (the) officer was nearly struck," the summary said. "The suspect became combative with officers and was taken into custody."
Williams was held on a $20,000 bond and is due to appear in court Jan. 26.
