Longtime bookkeeper at Norwich real estate firm charged with stealing more than $71,000
Norwich – A longtime employee of a local real estate firm was charged with first-degree larceny Monday following an investigation into alleged financial misappropriations over several years, police said.
Marianne Boyd, 59, of 128 Pollys Lane, Uncasville, was charged with one count of first-degree larceny. She was released on a $50,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court Feb. 1.
Police Sgt. Peter Camp said Boyd turned herself in Monday morning after being informed a warrant had been issued for her arrest.
Camp said police were contacted in October by The Partner Network real estate firm at 210 W. Town St., Norwich, which suspected an employee might have embezzled several thousand dollars from the firm. A forensic audit was conducted and discovered $71,766.96 was missing over several years. The missing funds included $54,483.12 in unauthorized checks and $17,283.84 in unauthorized credit card charges, Camp said.
Boyd worked as the company’s bookkeeper and was responsible for all financial transactions and accounts, Camp said. No further arrests are expected in the case.
Eric Greenstein, co-owner and managing broker for The Partner Network, declined to comment on the situation, except to say Boyd worked for the firm on and off, but “mostly on” for 37 years.
