East Lyme High School checked, cleared and 'safe' after bomb threat

East Lyme — Police investigating a bomb threat to East Lyme High School found the threat to be noncredible, according to the superintendent of schools.

Superintendent Jeffrey Newton informed parents and guardians in a letter Tuesday that a threat referencing East Lyme High School was left on a staff member's voicemail at Central Office on Friday evening. The staff member found the message when she arrived at work on Tuesday morning, and it was immediately reported to the superintendent, the schools' director of security and town police.

Newton said in the letter that police investigated and did a full sweep of the gym area, which was specifically referenced in the message, and the entirety of the high school as a precaution.

"The high school building is clear and safe for students and staff to enter tomorrow," Newton wrote. "We wanted to inform you of this situation as any and all threats are taken serious and investigated thoroughly."

Newton said in the letter that parents and guardians with questions can call East Lyme High School Principal Michael Susi at (860) 739-6946 or his office at (860) 739-3966.
