Police: DUI crash left Old Lyme man's truck in 2 pieces

Old Lyme — State police said an intoxicated man drove off state Route 1 and struck several poles and a tree early Sunday, leaving his truck in two pieces.

Daniel Jones, 30, of 10 Old Post Road was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Police said Jones “made an improper turn” as he approached Old Post Road about 1 a.m. His 2004 GMC Sierra K2500 HD first struck a dirt embankment and ultimately landed on its passenger side in two pieces.

Jones, who police said failed on-site sobriety tests, reported no injuries in the crash.

Jones is due July 20 in New London Superior Court.
