The Board of Education votes 6-1 Wednesday to hire a new superintendent, but the meeting ends chaotically when two board members confront each other in the hallway afterward. More than 175 parishioners of St. Michael Church in Pawcatuck gathered Tuesday night to begin discussing how they should address the closure of their church building. Among the halls named for World War II heroes and streets for lost submarines, there now stands a building at the Naval Submarine Base in honor of Linda J. Tirrell.
It's the first time in the base's 144-year history that a facility has been named after a civilian.
