Fire officials say Connecticut state troopers saved sleeping man from fire
New Britain — Fire officials are crediting state troopers with saving a sleeping man from a house fire here.
New Britain fire inspector Eddie Irizarry tells WVIT-TV that two state troopers saw flames at a house on Wilson Street at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. He said they reported the fire, then went inside and found the man on the second floor.
Irizarry said the man did not appear to be injured, but a dog and cat were killed in the fire.
A neighbor said the man lives at the house with his wife and 10-year-old son, who weren't there at the time.
Fire officials said the fire appears to have started on the porch and spread to the kitchen. The home was heavily damaged. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
