Connecticut tribes see advantage with MGM casino delay

Hartford (AP) — Connecticut's two tribes are predicting their plans for a satellite casino along the state's border with Massachusetts will benefit from MGM's recent request to delay the opening of its planned resort in Springfield for a year.

Kevin Brown, chairman of the Mohegan Tribe, said the requested one-year delay by MGM allows his tribe and the Mashantucket Pequots to "get a shovel in the ground before they do."

MGM asked the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to push back the opening of its planned casino to September 2018 because of a highway project

Appearing on Fox CT's "Real Story," Rodney Butler, the Mashantucket Pequot tribal chairman, said the Connecticut tribes should be issuing a request for proposal from interested host communities shortly.

The "Real Story" will air at 10 a.m. Sunday.
