Man gets 80 years in prison for killing of pregnant woman
Hartford — A Connecticut man who hired a hit man to kill his pregnant girlfriend after she refused to have an abortion has been sentenced to 80 years in prison.
Twenty-four-year-old Carlton "C.J." Bryan was sentenced Thursday in Hartford Superior Court, where a jury convicted him in May of conspiracy to commit murder and being an accessory to murder.
Prosecutors said Bryan hired his friend, Matthew Allen Hall-Davis, to kill 21-year-old Shamari Jenkins, who was fatally shot in Hartford in April 2013. Prosecutor Donna Mambrino said Bryan became angry and orchestrated a plan to have Jenkins killed after his efforts to get her to have an abortion failed.
Hall-Davis was convicted of murder and weapons charges. He was sentenced to 70 years in prison in May.
