Connecticut ranked No. 44 in tax climate

Connecticut has the seventh most unfriendly tax climate for businesses among all states, according to a new report by the Tax Foundation.

The most egregious part of the tax code? Not corporate tax structure, a category in which Connecticut ranks No. 33, or the individual income tax, which places the state at No. 36.

No, Connecticut's worst tax failing, according to the 12th annual State Business Tax Climate Index, is its reliance on property taxes, which places the state second to last in the nation.

In other categories, Connecticut is No. 29 in sales-tax structure and No. 20 in unemployment-insurance taxation. Rankings are based on more than 100 data points.

The worst tax structure in the nation belongs to New Jersey, followed by New York, California, Minnesota, Vermont and Rhode Island. Wyoming and South Dakota have the best tax structures, the foundation said.
