RI lawmakers expected to request Schilling subpoena

Providence, R.I. — A Rhode Island House committee that's looking at the state's $75 million deal with failed video game company 38 Studios is expected to request a subpoena for the company founder Curt Schilling.

A spokesman for the House says the Oversight Committee is expected to vote on Thursday evening to ask House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello to issue the subpoena, compelling Schilling to come before the committee. Mattiello has said he would approve the request if asked.

The committee previously asked Schilling to come voluntarily to speak about the deal, which left Rhode Island taxpayers on the hook when the company went bust. Schilling's lawyers declined, citing an ongoing lawsuit over the deal.

Schilling was not deposed in the lawsuit and has not publicly answered questions about how the deal went wrong.
