5 hospitalized after being knocked off jetty by wave in Rhode Island

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island officials say five people were hospitalized after being knocked off a jetty by a large wave.

Narragansett emergency crews were called to the area near Camp Cronin on Sunday afternoon. They rescued three people from the water. Two others were able to swim back to shore.

Narragansett fire Capt. Nelson Upright tells WPRI-TV their injuries ranged from minor to "pretty major."

Officials urged people to stay off the rocks and warned that Hurricane Jose is causing heavy surf.
