New York man dies after state Route 8 crash with DOT truck

SEYMOUR, Conn. (AP) — State police say a New York man was killed after the box truck he was driving collided with a Connecticut Department of Transportation vehicle on state Route 8.

Sixty-one-year-old Daniel Cormier was pronounced dead at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport following Thursday's crash. Troopers were dispatched to the accident scene near Exit 20 in Seymour at about 12:10 p.m.

DOT spokesman Kevin Nursick says crews were patching potholes along Route 8 when Cormier slammed into the back of a crash truck, which is designed to protect the workers.

State police say the DOT truck had an illuminated sign warning traffic of a right lane closure ahead.

Nursick says the driver of the DOT truck was "rattled" but uninjured in the crash.
