Police: Woman, 77, left loaded gun in restaurant bathroom

SOUTHINGTON (AP) — A 77-year-old Connecticut woman is facing charges after she left a loaded handgun in a restaurant bathroom.

Carmillia Kimmel was arrested Saturday and charged with second-degree reckless endangerment following the discovery of the weapon at Geno's Grille in Southington.

Officers responded to the restaurant after an employee notified police that a loaded .38-caliber handgun was found in the women's bathroom. Police traced the gun back to Kimmel.

Kimmel told police she got sick while at Geno's and placed her gun on the restroom's paper towel dispenser. She went outside for fresh air and left without realizing she had forgotten her gun.

Police say Kimmel holds a valid pistol permit.

She will be arraigned June 14.

A message left at a number listed for Kimmel wasn't immediately returned.
