UConn doctor charged with stealing medication
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A University of Connecticut Health Center physician will appear in court this week on charges alleging he stole medication from a Farmington hospital on multiple occasions.
The Hartford Courant reports that Dr. Micha Abeles of West Hartford is facing a felony charge of second-degree larceny. He's scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Hartford.
The arrest warrant says the 71-year-old Abeles went into the health center on days he didn't see his patients and took items including syringes and an anti-inflammatory medication from a locked room.
The warrant says Abeles told a detective he took the medication when he was running low at his private practice.
A UConn Health spokeswoman confirmed Abeles is on administrative leave. Abeles couldn't be reached for comment and doesn't yet have an attorney.
