100 acres burned in brush fire on Cape Cod military base
BOURNE, Mass. (AP) — More than 100 acres have been burned in a quick-spreading brush fire on a military base on Cape Cod.
The Sandwich Fire Department responded to the fire at Joint Base Cape Cod on Saturday morning. State police and the National Guard were called in to assist with dousing the flames.
No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged.
State Police Trooper Matthew Guarino told The Boston Globe (http://bit.ly/29TmyQR) that helicopters were using aerial buckets to drop water from a pond in Sandwich onto the fire from above.
Department of Conservation and Recreation Chief Fire Marshal Dave Celino says the fire could spread to 120 acres before it is extinguished.
Fire officials say the state is experiencing a drought and residents should avoid using outside fires.
