T-shirt company moving to Rhode Island from Connecticut
Providence — A T-shirt company being lured by state incentives to relocate to Rhode Island from Connecticut is opening its new headquarters near the Westerly State Airport.
Online retailer Ivory Ella has scheduled a "shirt-cutting" ceremony Tuesday with guests including Rhode Island's Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo.
Founded last year in Groton, Conn., the company will be moving just a few towns east and across the state border to Westerly. It markets itself as a socially conscious brand, designing elephant-themed shirts and accessories and sending a portion of proceeds to groups working to end the ivory trade.
The state Commerce Corporation approved about $362,000 in tax credits for the company earlier this year so that it could relocate 40 jobs to Rhode Island and eventually expand to a total of 60 jobs.
