Frost, then snow? Where did the hot weather go?

Remember last week's 80 degree temperatures? Hold onto the memory: A freeze warning will be in effect in parts of Connecticut Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service said, and snow may fall in places on Thursday.

The freeze warning will be in effect from 2 to 9 a.m. in Tolland County, according to an urgent weather message from the service in Taunton, Mass. The warning was upgraded from a freeze watch.

A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are "imminent or highly likely," the NWS said.

"These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation," the service said in the 4:40 a.m. message.

Forecasters said there's a chance for snow Thursday morning. The NWS said there is a "hazardous weather outlook" for northern Connecticut, including Hartford. There is a chance for snow in other parts of the state as well, like Danbury.

The warm up for the cool down will be in the form of patchy frost before 9 a.m. Wednesday. The day will be sunny, with a high near 50 degrees, the service said. On Wednesday night, the temperature will drop to about 30.

Precipitation in the form of snow or rain will fall before 11 a.m. Thursday, the service said. After that, only rain will fall. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

The high temperature will only reach the mid-40s Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
