Parts of southern New England brace for season's first snow
BOSTON — A cold snap has the S-word returning to the lips of Boston-area commuters: "S'' as in snow.
The National Weather Service says the white stuff began falling Thursday morning in parts of western Connecticut. Some snow is expected later in western Massachusetts as well.
Forecasters say snow — at times mixed with rain — is expected in a band stretching from Worcester to the Berkshires as well as in portions of western Vermont. Snowfall is more likely in higher elevations.
If it does snow, it's not expected to accumulate. Rain will wash it away and the ground isn't yet frozen.
Parts of northern New England saw their first snowfalls last week.
The mere mention of snow can unnerve Bostonians, who were buried in 9 feet of it in the epic winter of 2015.
