Girl, 10, shot in face in Hartford

A 10-year-old girl shot in the face on Branford Street was undergoing surgery at Connecticut Children's Medical Center Sunday night, Hartford police said.

Hartford police Lt. Paul Cicero said police were notified about 3:45 p.m. via ShotSpotter of gunfire at 247 Branford St.

Before police arrived, the girl's father took her to the emergency department at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

The hospital's emergency department went into lockdown, which has since been lifted, and the girl was transferred to Connecticut Children's.

Deputy Police Chief Brian Foley posted to Twitter Sunday night that the girl's injuries were not life-threatening. Foley also posted a photo of the ShotSpotter notification, which indicated that 11 shots were heard on the system.

On Branford Street, officers blocked off access from Palm Street to Lyme Street as officers from Hartford's major crimes division investigated. A few residents who said they lived in the neighborhood drove up and down Palm Street asking what had happened, but none stayed very long. Several said the area was a very quiet neighborhood.

Police are still investigating, Cicero said, and will likely be in the Branford Street area for most of the night.

The house was damaged by bullets, Cicero said.

Cicero said the Branford Street area is a quiet, family-oriented neighborhood.

Police ask that anyone with information call 860-757-4179.
